Top 10 - Albums of The Not So Famous

I wanted to do a little review on movies I've watched recently but i haven't really watched anything good lately....So i thought I'd do music instead. I found most of these bands through research over the years. If only I was half as enthusiastic about assignment research..sigh. Most of these bands may be famous in the US but you'll never hear this stuff here, hence the title. The albums are in no particular order.

Revis - Places For Breathing
A post-grunge band, Revis' only major release was Places For Breathing before they disbanded in 2005. This is probably my favorite album and band for that matter. The music and vocals are just so different. I can't even compare but to those who don't already know the band they sound kind of like Breaking Benjamin meets Taproot, well sought of at least. You must check it out if your into post-grunge/alternative stuff. Highlights of the album are Seven, Caught In The Rain and Spin.

Red - End Of Silence
If there was another Linkin Park, this would be them. Red is a nu-metal band that was nominated for the Best Rock or Rap Gospel Album at the 49th Grammy Awards. For all you Linkin Park fans that wanted another Hybrid Theory album, End Of Silence is as close as it gets. If you are into the dying breed of nu-metal, this is one album you must check out. Highlights of the album are Already Over, Breathe Into Me and Pieces.

Three Days Grace - One-X
This is another post-grunge band that released One-X in 2006. It's one of those albums where there's just no bad song, every song is just as good as the one before. Adam Gontier's voice is just amazing and flows impeccably with the music. Highlights of the album are Never Too Late, Pain, Over and Over and Gone Forever.

Thousand Foot Krutch - Phenomenon
Released in 2003, Phenomenon is a great package of catchy riffs and hooks. Their single "Rawkfist" is a rock anthem that totally blew me away the first time I heard it. This album is meant for those who just want to head bang and rock out. Highlights of the album are Rawkfist, Phenomenon, This Is A Call.

Skillet - Comatose
Skillet is a Christian band that plays alternative rock. They have 7 albums out but Comatose is probably the most commercial one in terms of music and success. If your into Christian rock do check out this album. Highlights of the album are Yours To Hold, Looking For Angels, and Rebirthing

Lovehammers - Marty Casey and Lovehammers
Marty Casey made his mark in the hit show Rockstar:INXS but didn't make the cut to front INXS as vocalist. He and his previous band were then signed on by Epic to produce their major label debut. They play a blend of alternative rock that can be appreciated by anyone. Most of the songs on the album sound like they should be singles, its definitely a good album for alternative rock fans. Highlights of the album are Trees, Casualty and Clouds.

Tommy Lee - Tommyland: The Ride
The second solo album by
Mötley Crüe drummer, this album has everything from alternative rock and pop rock to nu-metal and pop punk. I never understood why the album didn't receive much commercial success even though it's filled with radio-friendly songs. Tommy Lee shows us that he can be a good vocalist as well with his husky voice and catchy melodies. Highlights of the album are Hello, Again, Good Times and Make Believe.

Egypt Central - Egypt Central
After parting ways with record labels Lava and Bieler Bros, Egypt Central finally signed with Fat Lady Music in 2007 and officially released the debut album. Their style of music is post-grunge and maybe a little bit of nu-metal. These guys have the potential to become big, but for now their debut should be a good introduction. Highlights of the album are You Make Me Sick, Walls Of Innocence and Taking You Down.

Erin McCarley - Love, Save The Empty
This album is a pop rock album but has a very unique sound with some jazz influence. Her music kind of resembles that of Sara Bareilles and has been featured in shows like One Tree Hill and Grey's Anatomy. If your a fan of melancholic music that are featured in TV shows, then you'll love her. Highlights of the album are Love, Save The Empty, Lovesick Mistake and Pony (It's Okay).

OceanLab - Sirens Of The Sea
After a long search for a group that I might like in all the techno genres, I finally found one in the form of OceanLab. The music they create is vocal trance and this album is just superb. It's a very chilled out album and there's just something about the singer's voice, I just can't describe it, you'll have to listen for yourself. If you like to just lay back and listen to some relaxing music, you have to check this group out. Highlights of the album are Ashes, Breaking Ties and On The Beach.
